ALL the world was a stage yesterday as thespians from around the world launched a unique celebration.

Black Watch, the critically acclaimed show about Iraq, is among 27 productions from 12 countries to be staged at the Dublin Theatre Festival The Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival is Europe's oldest specialized theatre festival. It was founded by theatre impresario Brendan Smith in 1957 and has, with the exception of two years, produced a season of international and Irish theatre each autumn. .

Artistic director Loughlin Deegan said: "There are hundreds of performers flying in from every corner of the globe and sets and containers coming across every ocean.

"Over 300 performances will happen around the city."
