Festival blooms again.


A VILLAGE event is set to be revived after seven years to celebrate the life and work of St Peter.

The flower festival and art and craft exhibition at St Peter's Church in Balsall Common Balsall Common (often known as Balsall Compton) is a large village and one of the larger rural settlements in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, situated seven miles (eleven km) west of Coventry and 13 miles (21 km) to the east of Birmingham, to which it serves as a  will take place over three days from June 29 - St Peter's Day.

It will start with a service led by the Dean of Birmingham Cathedral There are three cathedrals in Birmingham, England:
  • St Philip's (Church of England)
  • St Chad's (Catholic)
  • Dormition of the Mother of God and St Andrew (Greek Orthodox)
, the Very Rev Robert Wilkes Robert Wilkes (June 24, 1832 – Aug 16, 1880) was an Irish-Canadian politician and businessman. Wilkes came to Toronto from his native Ireland at sixteen, working as a clerk before buying a jewelry firm, Rossin Brothers, which he expanded into a cross-country operation. . The service will take place in the church on June 29 at 7pm.

The following day the church and hall will be open from 10.30am to 6pm and will feature floral displays and the work of local artists.

The festival will continue from 11.30am on the Sunday, culminating in a Songs of Praise celebration in the church at 6pm.

The Rev Peter Thomas, vicar of St Peter's, said the event had been funded by almost 20 local businesses.

He added: "I am delighted at the support our village has given.

We are looking forward to an enjoyable and uplifting celebration of the life of St Peter."
