Ferry staff hit pounds 2.2m Lottery jackpot.

FERRY staff sailing out of Holyhead have scooped a pounds 2.2m jackpot on the National Lottery - with more than 25 workers bagging nearly pounds 75,000 each.

Stena Line workers on the high speed ferry at the port town won the cash in the Wednesday lottery draw last week.

They have asked to stay anonymous after the shock win when their six balls came up.

A staff source told the Daily Post: "It is great news for the staff that won and good luck to them.

"It is a fantastic amount of money that will make a great difference to all their lives.

"It is also nice because it is shared around a large group of the workers.

"Everyone not in the syndicate is kicking themselves now for not entering but I hope they really enjoy the money."

He added: "The town has had such a bad time recently with the news about Anglesey Aluminium closing that it is nice to finally have a bit of good news for a change for Holyhead rather than doom and gloom.

"It has lifted a lot of spirits at the port anyway."

It is understood the syndicate of staff members struck lucky on Wednesday August 26.

The total prize fund in the midweek National Lotto draw on the night was pounds 6,671,970.

Three winners each scooped pounds 2,223,990.

The staff work on the Stena Line HSS Explorer fast ferry, which sails daily between Holyhead and Dun Laoghaire in the Republic of Ireland.

Stena Line and Camelot, who run the National Lottery, were unable to comment on the win.
