Ferry gets aid lifeline.


AN ISLAND ferry route has been saved by a pounds 60,000 lottery lottery, scheme for distributing prizes by lot or other method of chance selection to persons who have paid for the opportunity to win. The term is not applicable when lots are drawn without payment by the interested parties to determine some matter, e.g.  grant.

The future of the Glenelg ferry to Skye was put in doubt three years ago when its owner put it up for sale.

Inner Hebrides - islands between the Outer Hebrides and the western coast of Scotland
 Ferry Community Interest Company have chartered the vessel, The Glenachulish, since last Easter.

But spokeswoman Jennifer Frances said without the lottery money, they might have been forced to abandon the service.

She said: "Its only viable future is through community ownership."
