Fellows program established for future logistics leaders.

In July, the Office of the Secretary of Defense The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) is part of the United States Department of Defense and includes the entire staff of the Secretary of Defense. It is the principal staff element of the Secretary of Defense in the exercise of policy development, planning, resource  (OSD) announced the establishment of an OSD Supply and Transportation Fellows Program for highly motivated military and civilian personnel with the potential to lead and manage the Department of Defense's Future Logistics Enterprise.

The new, centrally managed program is the result of the merger of the Transportation Policy and Supply Chain Integration Professional Enhancement Programs. The yearlong fellows program builds on the successes of these separate functional programs and retains many of their features.

The new program exposes participants to the full spectrum of logistics at both the department and service or agency level. For the first 6 months, participants are assigned to the OSD Transportation Policy and Supply Chain Integration Offices, where they assist with policy formulation and evaluation. During this period, OSD, the fellows' parent organizations, and the fellows themselves work together to create logistics development plans that will help the fellows reach their career goals and objectives. For the second 6-month period, the fellows rotate through other senior headquarters elements, such as the services' logistics staffs and materiel commands, the Defense Logistics Agency Noun 1.
