There's nothing worse than catching a cold. Our body changes significantly leaving us with no energy and in some cases not able to function in a normal capacity. Our lives quickly change when we get sick. With a cold it's hard to breathe and swallow. We lose our appetites, and are groggy from medication. When feeling sick - eating chicken soup can make a significant difference, and here's why.

From way back in time it was said when someone is feeling sick eating chicken soup can work miracles. I'm not sure if anyone believed that, but they eat it anyway. Well, believe it or not chicken soup can help provide relief.

The ingredients used in chicken soup are the keys to helping someone with a cold feel better. The broth in the soup absorbs the seasonings and spices, like pepper and garlic have the same effects as cough medications. These elements provide relief for clearing nasal passages and comforting a scratchy throat. There are amino acids in the meat good for clearing bronchial passages, good for decongesting. Eating chicken soup will provide some form of relief.

Other extremely valuable benefits to the chicken soup ingredients are the vegetables it contains. Carrots are a source of beta carotene that is effective for fighting viruses and infections. Onions in the soup actually work as an antihistamine because they contain antioxidants. With chicken soup, you'll get essential nutrients.

Another benefit when you are feeling sick eating chicken soup is that it is warm and has a delectable taste. Even if you don't have an appetite it relaxes you. If you have a neighbor or friend that brings you some, it can be the best medicine you can ask for.

While you are recuperating there are a variety of things you can try that can make you feel better along with eating your chicken soup. Children and their laughter are always good medicine. Although you won't want them to catch your cold, sharing a good laugh and book will help. Cozy up in a special blanket and let the fun begin. Let them read to you until you fall asleep. Another good soothing source is team with peppermint, lemon or honey.

A nice soothing, warm bath with bubbles and special scents can be relaxing. Light scented candles to make the experience more pleasurable. This will make you feel better and help reduce discomfort.

Some friends are creative and deliver remedy gift baskets to perk you up. If you haven't tried aromatherapy herbal packs, you're in for a treat. These are great replacements for humidifiers and vaporizers. An herbal microwavable pillow loaded with the contents of peppermint and lavender are great at clearing your nasal passages, and the scent is fantastic.

So next time that you're feeling sick or under the weather just remember what can be a precious way to recovery, make sure you can get your hands on some chicken soup. You will feel great regardless of what sickness you have, it's just something that soothes the soul.
