Feeder Carts.SMD (1) (Storage Module Device) A high-performance hard disk interface used with minis and mainframes that transfers data in the 1-4 MBytes/sec range (SMD-E provides highest rate). The carts can be used to pre-kit tape feeders in positive latching feeder locations. The pre-kitted feeder set moves from the numbered slots on the cart to the same number slot on the assembler Software that translates assembly language into machine language. Contrast with compiler, which is used to translate a high-level language, such as COBOL or C, into assembly language first and then into machine language. .
