The church would benefit from priests who served for shorter terms rather than for life because ...

There would be more priests and many would stay as they found out that the priesthood is a rewarding life. I also think the church would benefit from the energy and new ideas "New Ideas" is the debut single by Scottish New Wave/Indie Rock act The Dykeenies. It was first released as a Double A-side with "Will It Happen Tonight?" on July 17, 2006. The band also recorded a video for the track.  of constantly having new men enter each year.

Without the present stigma of "leaving" the priesthood, we could use their knowledge, experience, and dedication in other services to the church rather than banishing them from ministry.

There is a disturbing trend in society: large numbers of people unable to commit to anything long-term--marriages, careers. Offering short-term commitments will just lower the bar, and the church needs to raise the bar.
