Feed Management Systems (FMS) Technologies Play Key Role in Two of Three 2005 AFIA Food Safety Awards; FMS Brings Home AFIA Food Safety Award for Two Consecutive Years.

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. -- Feed Management Systems, Inc. (FMS) and its customer, Land O'Lakes, both were honored last night with Food Safety Innovation Awards from the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA). This is the second year in which FMS has received the AFIA Award.

The awards were presented to both companies at the AFIA's annual conference, held this year in Kansas City. Richard Reynertson, CEO, accepted the award for FMS. "We are deeply honored to have been singled out for this award in two consecutive years. As a company, we are committed to 'farm to fork' safety--so this award is especially important to us," Reynertson said.

FMS was also excited that the second Food Safety Award this year was given to one of their strategic customers - Land O'Lakes Purina Feed LLC, the national farmer-owned food and agriculture cooperative, for its Integrated Service Bureau (ISB) solution. Based on FMS technologies and designed by both FMS and Land O'Lakes, the ISB links Land O'Lakes pork producers with their feed mills and enables tracking of the exact diet each pig consumes throughout its life. Land O'Lakes has collaborated with FMS on several complex solutions for its dynamic feed business.

This year, FMS received the AFIA Award for its Feed Tags, a comprehensive software solution that enables virtually automated regulatory compliance and includes built-in traceability safeguards. In 2004, FMS was honored by AFIA for its work in ruling out the feed supply as the cause of the first U.S. case of 'mad cow' disease.

According to AFIA's vice president Richard Sellers, "AFIA is pleased to present the Food Safety Innovation Award to Feed Management Systems for the second consecutive year. This year, we have recognized FMS for its Feed Tags program which promotes label compliance and minimizes errors, thereby minimizing the potential for misuse of feed," Sellers explained. "We congratulate Feed Management Systems for their efforts in creating innovative feed safety services and programs."

AFIA promotes feed safety through this award, now in its third year, and through the association's Safe Feed/Safe Food Certification Program. The AFIA Food Safety Innovation Award recognizes industry leaders who have demonstrated its commitment to food/feed safety with innovative approaches.

Research Underpins FMS Feed Tags

With two decades of deep feed industry expertise, FMS has consistently been on the leading edge--developing software solutions to address the most pressing issues faced by feed companies. --Automatic updates of Compendium Data to ensure that manufacturers are using the most current information published in the Federal Register or the medicating ingredient brochures.

--Archiving function that tracks labels used with each revision of a product. This traceability provides a link from the archived tag to the archived production formula

--Bar Codes that are applied to Tags and enhance the trace/track functionality

FMS Feed Tags comprehensively addresses a range of food/feed safety and compliance issues. It also levels the playing field for small and mid-size mills that might otherwise be challenged in these critical areas.
