Feds hire more disabled vets.* The Office of Personnel Management (OPM See Oracle Process Manufacturing. ) reports that the number of veterans and disabled veterans working for the federal government is on the rise. The Disabled Veterans Affirmative Action affirmative action, in the United States, programs to overcome the effects of past societal discrimination by allocating jobs and resources to members of specific groups, such as minorities and women. Program report highlights federal employment statistics in fiscal year 2005, which noted that veterans held 25 percent of all federal jobs; and 92,642 disabled veterans occupied oc·cu·py tr.v. oc·cu·pied, oc·cu·py·ing, oc·cu·pies 1. In addition, federal agencies hired 31,024 veterans into fulltime permanent jobs, an increase of 21.4 percent over fiscal 2004. The report shows that since 2004, veteran employment increased to 456,256 out of a work force of 1.8 million; employment of disabled veterans increased to 92,642 from 87,309; and the number of employed veterans who are 30 percent or more disabled increased to 46,727 from 42,010. OPM credits the Veterans Employment Opportunities Act for bringing more qualified veterans into the federal work force. |
