Federated March comp sales increase 6.1%.


CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 1996--Federated Department Stores This is a list of department stores. In the case of department store groups the location of the flagship store is given. This list does not include large specialist stores, which sometimes resemble department stores. , Inc. today reported total sales of $1,278.0 million for the five weeks ended April 6, 1996, an increase of 11.8 percent over total sales of $1,142.8 million for the same March period last year. On a comparable-store basis, Federated's March sales increased 6.1 percent.

For the first two months of Fiscal 1996, Federated Connected and treated as one. See federated database and federated directories.  reported total sales of $2,311.1 million, an increase of 12.5 percent over sales of $2,054.4 million in the same nine-week period last year. On a comparable-store basis, sales for the February/March period increased 7.4 percent.

 Questrom, chairman and chief executive officer of Federated, said the company's March results might have been stronger were it not for unseasonably cold weather that impacted much of the country during the period.
