In July July: see month. , the SAFETEA SAFETEA Safe, Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Equity Act Bill passed, authorizing $600 million nationally for Safe Routes to Schools projects Ten percent to 30 percent of funds can be allocated to planning and program development, and the balance covers construction and engineering costs. The PACE Act authorizes an additional $250 million annually in grants for Safe Routes projects. Schools can apply to the state DOT for funds to improve infrastructure hire crossing guards or fund traffic safety programs.
