Federal prosecutors close case against Quackenbush. (Briefing).Federal prosecutors have said they don't intend to file any more criminal charges related to the California Department of Insurance's actions under the leadership of former Insurance Commissioner Chuck Quackenbush. But Quackenbush, who resigned in 2000 before having to testify before the state Legislature about the scandal, isn't out of the woods yet. State prosecutors still are investigating his office's alleged wrongdoing. The U.S. Attorney's Office, which charged two people in connection with alleged misuse of nonprofit organization money that had been donated by insurance companies in lieu of fines, said the investigation is closed. "We will not be filling any additional charges," said spokeswoman Patty Pontello. But the California Attorney General's Office still is investigating the case, said Sandra Michioku, director of public affairs for the office. |
