Federal court upholds park ban on molesters.

 can be banned from public parks, upholding a U.S. Circuit Court decision that determined a Michigan City Michigan City, city (1990 pop. 33,822), La Porte co., NW Ind., on Lake Michigan; inc. 1836. Michigan City produces machinery, consumer articles, kitchen and transportation equipment, concrete and wire products, chemicals, apparel, and cast iron boilers. , Ind., man's rights were not violated by being banned from a park.

The initial case was brought about by the American Civil Liberties Union American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), nonpartisan organization devoted to the preservation and extension of the basic rights set forth in the U.S. Constitution.  (ACLU ACLU: see American Civil Liberties Union. ), who argued that the man's constitutional rights had been violated when he was banned from parks in Michigan City. The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals determined that the man was not "just another patron" and that he brought about a threat.

The case could have broad-based effects because it found that people have no fundamental right to access public parks.
