Fed OSHA requirement will have minor impact in California. (Ergonomics Update).


In April, OSHA OSHA

Occupational Safety and Health Administration, a branch of the US Department of Labor responsible for establishing and enforcing safety and health standards in the workplace.
 announced that they will develop a set of voluntary guidelines guidelines,

However, the OSHA program is expected to have little impact on California employers who are covered by a mandatory Cal/OSHA standard.

California employers are covered by the Cal/OSHA Repetitive Motion Injury Standard, which is triggered when two injuries occur that are attributed to repetitive motion hazards. The standard then requires the employer to develop programs that include risk analysis, workplace design modifications and employee training.

To ensure compliance, the California Chamber of Commerce suggests: familiarize yourself with the Cal/OSHA RMI (Remote Method Invocation) A standard from Sun for distributed objects written in Java. RMI is a remote procedure call (RPC), which allows Java objects (software components) stored in the network to be run remotely.  standard; train staff to recognize RMI risk situations and prevention; review you Log 300 statistics to determine whether your company is experiencing injuries that may have resulted from repetitive motion hazards; and, develop a formal program if your company has experienced two or more covered injuries.
