Faulding Receives FDA Approval for Acyclovir Capsules.

, Purepac Pharmaceutical Co., has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration to market acyclovir capsules, it was announced today by Richard F. Moldin, president and chief executive officer of Faulding Inc.

"Our 200 mg acyclovir capsules are the generic equivalent of Zovirax(R) brand capsules marketed by Glaxo Wellcome Inc., an antiviral drug which is indicated for the treatment of herpes viruses. The product had brand sales in 1996 of approximately $113 million. There are several other manufacturers holding approved ANDAs for this product. We are currently evaluating the commercial potential for acyclovir capsules," explained Moldin.
