Faulding Inc. receives FDA approval for captopril tablets USP.

, Purepac Pharmaceutical Co., has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration to market captopril captopril /cap·to·pril/ (kap´to-pril) an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor used in the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, and post–myocardial infarction left ventricular dysfunction.  tablets USP USP - unique sales point , it was announced today by Richard F. Moldin, president and chief executive officer of Faulding Inc.

"Our 12.5 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg captopril tablets are the generic equivalent of Capoten(R) tablets marketed by Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. Reported generic sales of captopril tablets in 1996 totaled $96.8 million. There are currently 20 other manufacturers holding approved ANDAs for this product. We are currently examining the commercial potential for captopril tablets," said Moldin.

Captopril is indicated in the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, and left ventricular dysfunction after myocardial infarction.
