, who was previously a producer with Disney, started the site in 2000 for entertainment--not for religious reasons.

Confessions are categorized by the Ten Commandments Ten Commandments or Decalogue [Gr.,=ten words], in the Bible, the summary of divine law given by God to Moses on Mt. Sinai. They have a paramount place in the ethical system in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.  and range from the light-hearted--sucking your thumb--to the serious, such as abuse and suicide. Fox, who screens everything on the site, highlights these serious confessions and adds links of how to get help. Users also "talk back" to a penitent and provide advice, sympathy, or, on the silly ones, ridicule.

Fox also has compiled the site's highlights in Coming Clean: The Best and Worst of DailyConfession.com (Andrews McMeel Publishing). A good number of the confessions deal with sex and relationships, so both the book and site are best for a mature audience.
