The new roll-fed Xerox DocuPrint 1050 and 525 continuous-feed digital printers both print up to 244 feet per minute and are designed for creating publishing and transaction document applications. Xerox launched the systems today at drupa 2004, the quadrennial quad·ren·ni·al

Unlike standard-width continuous-feed printers, which only accommodate two 6" x 9" images across the width of their paper roll stock, the Xerox systems have a 19.5" web width to fit three images across. As a result, the Xerox systems print 33 percent more 6" x 9" images per minute, reducing the cost per image while improving throughput in the most popular format used for paperback books, statements and invoices.

Both Xerox systems are designed for high-volume production of statements, bills and other transaction work in corporate data centers and service bureaus, and for producing books, booklets, brochures and other print-on-demand jobs in corporate printing departments and graphic arts graphic arts: see aquatint; drawing; drypoint; engraving; etching; illustration; linoleum block printing; lithography; mezzotint; niello; pastel; poster; silk-screen printing; silhouette; silverpoint; sketch; stencil; woodcut and wood engraving.  shops. Because these systems switch easily between transaction and production applications, they are ideal for the growing number of enterprise print operations that require flexibility for print-on-demand and data center printing functionality.

"Continuous-feed printing represents a strategic growth area for Xerox, and we will continue to provide the workflow, service and support our customers need to reduce costs and boost productivity," said Mark Waxenberg, vice president and general manager, Xerox Production Systems Group. "These new printers round out our broad line of reliable continuous-feed printers and complement our industry-leading cut-sheet printers family."

The DocuPrint 1050 and 525 integrate seamlessly with open workflow systems -- including those of the Xerox FreeFlow(TM) Digital Workflow In print publishing, using the computer to lay out text and illustrations prior to creating film negatives for every page or going directly to plate. Prior to digital workflow, the typesetting and pre-press stages were far more time consuming and labor-intensive.  Collection -- and can be flexibly configured con·fig·ure

They print with a 600 dots-per-inch resolution on pin-less or pin-fed paper in 19.5" wide paper rolls at up to 244 feet per minute (532 images per minute 2-up, one sided 8.5" x 11"), which is 25 percent faster than the next fastest Xerox 600-dpi printer, the DocuPrint 850 continuous-feed printer.

The DocuPrint 1050 pairs two DocuPrint 525s for twin two-sided printing of as many as 1,064 images per minute 2-up for 8.5" x 11" pages, and of as many as 1,952 images per minute 3-up for 6" x 9" book pages.

Both models accommodate all major mainframe and publishing data streams. An optional Xerox DocuSP controller, based on a Sun V440 platform and featuring an enhanced Page Parallel RIP, uses four parallel processors for fast processing of complex PostScript and PDF files See PDF. .
