Tobias Frenz is the first person to be awarded the CIMA certificate in Islamic finance. Frenz who is (pictured), of the family reinsurance business at Munich Re Retakaful in Malaysia, is German and a non-Muslim. But his job involves working closely with Malaysia's sharia advisory board, which makes it crucial for him to understand Islamic finance.

"The course has helped me to come up with ideas on Islamic reinsurance and new products," he said. "it also increases my own standing and credibility in Islamic finance, because I am a non-Muslim."

More than 300 people around the world are currently taking the course. Frenz finished it in two months. Visit www.cimaglobal.com/ islamicfinance for further information.
