Fashion showcase for Laura.A STUDENT designer from Huddersfield made her debut in the 2009 London Fashion Week. Laura May, 21, a first year student at Huddersfield University, was one of 14 students to take part in the Fashion Awareness Direct Based in London, Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) , was set up in 1997 as an independent non-profit making organisation started by a number of individuals from different backgrounds (designers, fashion students, people from the industry and members of the public) who shared a common competition. She beat competitors from 24 universities for her place in the FAD FAD - ["FAD, A Simple and Powerful Database Language", F. Bancilon et al, Proc 13th Intl Conf on VLDB, Brighton, England, Sep 1987]. final, organised by Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Laura's garments were shown off on the catwalk to the FAD jury who included Dolly Jones, the editor of Vogue.com and leading fashion scout Martyn Roberts. She drew her inspiration for her designs from the planet Mercury, the surface textures of the moon and Greek mythology Greek mythology Oral and literary traditions of the ancient Greeks concerning their gods and heroes and the nature and history of the cosmos. The Greek myths and legends are known today primarily from Greek literature, including such classic works as Homer's Iliad and . Laura, from Hull, did not win but she met designers and buyers after the show. First prize of pounds 2,000 and a placement in the fashion industry went to Ana Belen Mereono from Nottingham Trent..
