KPG Managing Director for Refining and Chairman and CEO of KNPC since September 2007, Zanki took up this position from Rushaid. From September 2004 until 2007, Zanki used to be KPC MD for E&P and head of KOC, he had taken over the E&P firms from Ahmad al-Arbeed. Until then September 2004, Zanki was KOC's head of exploration and development and its board's deputy chairman.

Zanki has the tough jobs of getting the 615,000 b/d refining project at al-Zour to be re-tendered for execution and of compensating contractors who earlier this year saw their orders cancelled. Another tough objective is to upgrade KNPC's three local refineries in a project worth $18 bn (see down23KuwtRefJun8-09).
