Farmers Announces Winner of "Improve a Field Contest".

Winning Group Scores Homerun for Special Kids

SEATTLE -- Farmers Insurance Group of Companies is proud to announce the Miracle League as the winner of its "Improve a Field Contest." In partnership with Fisher Communications, Farmers will donate $10,000 dollars to the Miracle League towards a special baseball field developed especially to accommodate special needs baseball players. The Miracle League Team is made up of special needs kids with a wide range of disabilities, including many that have profound physical and cognitive challenges. Located in Monroe, WA, the field is the only one of its kind in Washington. Built especially for handicapped children, it will have special wheelchair-accessible dugouts, specially designed pitching mounds, and close-in parking to accommodate wheelchairs.

"This donation will go a long way in making the dreams of many special needs children come true," said Sue Skillen, of Rotary Club of Monroe Foundation/Miracle League. "The drive and determination of these players inspires us in ways we did not know possible. All of our lives have been enriched from being afforded the benefit of working with these players and their families."

Dozens of groups applied for the $10,000 improvement donation and after a two-month selection process, the Miracle League was chosen as the winner.

"We are delighted to have selected the Miracle League Field as this year's winning recipient of the Farmers aimprove a field' project," says KOMO radio's Mike Farrington. "We're thrilled to help kids overcome physical limitations if only for a few hours on the baseball field."

The Miracle League recently broke ground for its new baseball field, located in the Monroe Rotary Club Park. The Miracle League will receive the $10,000 donation on Thursday, September 28, 2006 during a special ceremony.
