Farm Progress Show.

The 2006 Farm Progress Show will be held Aug. 29-31, 2006, near Amana, Iowa, on the Amana Colonies facility.

Originally the 2006 show was to be staged on a new permanent biennial biennial, plant requiring two years to complete its life cycle, as distinguished from an annual or a perennial. In the first year a biennial usually produces a rosette of leaves (e.g., the cabbage) and a fleshy root, which acts as a food reserve over the winter. During the second year the plant produces flowers and seeds and, having exhausted its food reserve, then dies. Short-lived perennials (e.g., the hollyhock) are often treated as biennials. Iowa location, which would rotate with its permanent biennial Illinois/Indiana site located in Decatur, Ill. Next year's show will be held on the weather-tolerant Amana location and the process to locate a long-term Iowa show site will continue. The search process has been narrowed to a few communities and current plans are to announce the show's permanent biennial Iowa site at the end of 2006.
