Farm Press. (At Closing People).
William Scott McNamee, founder of the Farm Press company, died June 24 at the age of 79 at his home in Clarksdale Clarksdale, city (1990 pop. 19,717), seat of Coahoma co., NW Miss., on the Sunflower River; inc. 1882. It is a processing and distribution center for agriculture, its main resource. There is also light manufacturing. Clarksdale also is a major center for rhythm-and-blues music., Miss. McNamee began working at Delta Farm Press following his graduation from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and went on to buy the publication in 1968. Under his leadership, the newspaper became one of the most respected ag publications in the nation. He then launched other editions--Southeast Farm and Southwest Farm Press in 1974 and California-Arizona Farm Press (now Western Farm Press) in 1979. At the company's peak, the Farm Press publications reached 240,000 of the nation's farmers and agribusiness leaders. He sold the company in 1984.
