Farm Journal Media. (At Closing News).

Farm Journal Media, Philadelphia, is seeing a sharp upturn in fourth quarter spending leading into 2003. Company print and broadcast advertising revenues booked for fourth quarter 2002 exceed last year's fourth quarter revenue by more than 25 percent.

Farm advertising declined steadily for the past several years due to corporate mergers, a struggling farm economy and more recently a difficult national economy. The agricultural print advertising reporting service Agricom shows horticulture horticulture [Lat. hortus=garden], science and art of gardening and of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants. Horticulture generally refers to small-scale gardening, and agriculture to the growing of field crops, usually on a large scale, although the distinction is not always precise (for example, market gardening could be classed either way). and agriculture print advertising off 34 percent through June 2002 versus June 2001.
