Fantasy fame as amateur rockers join their idols; Legends pass on tips at the Cavern Cub.Byline: BY ALAN WESTON Daily Post Staff A ROCK 'n' roll fantasy camp which gives members a chance to perform alongside their music idols came to Liverpool's legendary Cavern Club last night. It was the finale of a week-long Beatles-themed extravaganza which also saw the "campers" play and record at Abbey Road studios in London. The Beatles' original drummer, Pete Best, was present last night to talk and answer questions about his memories of playing at the Cavern in the early days with John, Paul and George. The aspiring musicians pay up to pounds 3,000 each to pick up playing techniques and tricks from the professionals. During the time spent at Abbey Road, tutors included former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd The seven amateur bands were accompanied by professional musicians to perform three Beatles' songs each on stage at the Cavern last night. Best, who is currently in the middle of a world tour with his own band, said: "It's great that it's finishing up in Liverpool and at the Cavern in particular. "The energy of the players is absolutely fantastic. "It's just like it used to be in the 60s." Among the amateur musicians at the event were a top surgeon and an anaesthetist from Chicago, who between them have attended more than a dozen rock 'n' roll fantasy camps. The members were John Lennon, 1940–80, guitar and harmonica; (James) Paul McCartney, 1942–, guitar and piano; George Harrison, Stones, and Pink Floyd. "You can't get much better than that. "We give ordinary Joes and captains of industry the chance to have rock stars in their bands, play live in a major concert venue like the Cavern, and record at Abbey Road studios with a Grammy-award winning producer. "Our clientele grew up with these people and listened to their bands.
