Family and Medical Leave Handbook.

These three publications by the Thompson Publishing Group are of special interest to accountants servicing their small business clients, who have neither the time nor resources to keep informed on recent developments. Accordingly, small business managers must rely upon their accountants for advice and guidance, especially in the areas of new federal legislation. Happily, the Thompson Publishing Group has filled a void by providing the independent practicing accountant with reliable materials on which to base advice to the clients.

Family and Medical Leave Handbook resulted from the Family and Medical Leave Act signed by President Clinton on February 5, 1993. It takes effect in August, 1993. At that time, employers with 50 or more employees will have to allow them to take up to 12 weeks of leave a year for birth, care or adoption of a child, care of a spouse or parent or for a serious health condition that does not allow the employee to perform his or her duties.

In a single looseleaf binder, the Family and Medical Leave Handbook tracks and interprets the regulations and requirements necessary to comply with the law. The Handbook also includes sample forms, documents and employee handbook provisions that aid the employer to comply with the law and regulation.
