Leap of Faith The 1992 Steve Martin film about a huckster/evangelist takes to the stage with a score by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, under the direction of Taylor Hackford, who also directed the movie. Could this be related to the fact that another Steve Martin movie, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, was turned into a musical hit? Surely not. Next to Normal Once called Feeling Electric, this off-Broadway musical is about a mentally ill woman, her family, and her shrink. By writer Brian Yorkey and composer Tom Kitt, it is directed by Michael Greif---don't forget that he had something of a success with his last off-Broadway musical about an off-balance family, Grey Gardens. Princesses This one's been around a while--maybe this year it will finally open. It's the brainchild of David Zippel, who wrote the highly original City of Angels, and deals with the fallout at a fancy girls' school when a movie heartthrob agrees to direct the annual show.
