Fall gay rights preview.


High court decisions against same-sex marriage in New York Same-sex marriage can not be performed in New York state. Since August 2007, it is, however, recognized if the party involved got legally married in a place where same-sex couples have the right to marry.  State and Washington State marked this summer as a tough season in the history of LGBT LGBT Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender  equality. Here's a quick look at pending cases in other states and when they might be resolved:

* By the time you read this, the New Jersey supreme court may have already ruled on marriage equality in a case argued in February 2006.

An unsuccessful party in a lawsuit must file an appeal with an appellate court in order to have the decision reviewed.
 is expected to rule in October on a coordinated set of six marriage-related cases. Win or lose, the decision will go straight to the California supreme court for a final verdict next year.

 will be appealed to an intermediate court. But the state's high court is expected to take over jurisdiction, which could lead to a ruling in 2007.

* As early as this fall the state of Oklahoma will have to defend its antigay adoption law in the 10th U.S. circuit court of appeals. That law authorizes the state to thumb its nose at valid adoptions by same-sex parents from elsewhere in the country.

* In Maryland the court of appeals, the state's highest court, recently took jurisdiction over a marriage equality case, setting the stage for oral arguments in December.

* In Massachusetts a showdown over the military's antigay "don't ask, don't tell" policy is expected next year before the U.S. court of appeals for the first circuit.

* In Utah a key case before the 10th U.S. circuit court of appeals will test the unsettled question of whether transgender transgender or transgendered
