Fairchild Semiconductor Introduces New Mini-Flat Package Optocouplers; New Mini-Flat Package is 70% Smaller Than Dual Inline Package.

Business/Technology Editors

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)

Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE NYSE

See: New York Stock Exchange
: FCS FCS - Frame Check Sequence ) today announced the introduction of a new mini-flat package configuration for optocouplers, according to Steve Sherman, Fairchild Semiconductor senior vice president for the Optoelectronics Group.

The mini-flat package configuration is 70% smaller than dual inline package configurations, and it will be used for packaging optocouplers that are used in applications where small component size is crucial. The first products to be offered in the mini-flat package are the HMA (High Memory Area) In PCs, the first 64K of extended memory from 1024K to 1088K, which can be accessed by DOS. It is managed by the HIMEM.SYS driver. It was discovered by accident that this area could be used by DOS, even though it was beyond the traditional 121, HMA124, HMA2701 and HMAA HMAA Hotel Motel and Accommodation Association (Australia)

2705 optocouplers.

The HMA series optocouplers consist of a single gallium arsenide infrared emitting diode (dc input) driving a silicon phototransistor A transistor that uses light rather than electricity to cause an electrical current to flow from one side to the other. It is used in a variety of sensors that detect the presence of light. . The HMA121 has a current transfer ratio (CTR) of 50-600%, the HMA124 has a CTR of 100-1200%, and the HMA2701 has a CTR of 50-300%. The HMA series optocouplers are ideal for use in applications such as microprocessor input, digital logic input, power supply monitor, twisted pair line receiver and telephone line receiver.

The HMAA optocoupler consists of two gallium arsenide infrared emitting diodes connected in inverse parallel (ac input) driving a silicon phototransistor. The HMAA2705 has a CTR of 50-300%, and it is ideal for use in applications such as ac line monitor, unknown polarity dc sensor and telephone line receiver.

All of the optocouplers are BSI, CSA (1) (Canadian Standards Association, Toronto, Ontario, www.csa.ca) A standards-defining organization founded in 1919. It is involved in many industries, including electronics, communications and information technology. , and UL certified, available in tape and reel configuration, and direct replacements for NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

, Sharp and Toshiba. U.S. list prices for 10,000 piece quantities are $0.17 for the HMA121, $0.17 for the HMA124, $0.17 for the HMA2701 and $0.29 for the HMAA2705. For more information, go to www.fairchildsemi.com.
