Fairchild's Newest Horizontal Deflection Transistors Address Widest Range of Color TVs and PC Monitor Applications.Business Editors & High-Tech Writers PUCHON, Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2001 Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :FCS FCS - Frame Check Sequence ) announces the next generation of horizontal deflection transistor (HDTR HDTR High Dynamic Time Range (photography term) ) products. The advanced, bipolar junction transistors boast high voltage The term high voltage characterizes electrical circuits, in which the voltage used is the cause of particular safety concerns and insulation requirements. High voltage is used in electrical power distribution, in cathode ray tubes, to generate X-rays and particle beams, to , 1500V and 1700V capability, and high switching speeds required for high-resolution monitors and wide-screen TVs. For horizontal deflection applications bipolar transistors are preferable to IGBTs because of their low cost and faster turn-off switching speed capabilities without tailing. The power loss and base drive of the power transistor are crucial factors in the design of the power circuit. Fairchild's HDTR family meets the needs of color not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed. See also: Color monitors (up to horizontal frequency of 130KHZ) and color TVs (up to 34-inch wide) with high speed, low switching loss, low saturation voltage (less than 3V), and high voltage capability in a range of current ratings. Other features of these next-generation HDTRs include a thinner epitaxial layer In chip making, a semiconductor layer that is created on top of the silicon base rather than below it. See molecular beam epitaxy. and an optimized cell design using a hollow multiple emitter structure. This allows a high current capability, wider safe operating area For power semiconductor device (such as BJT, MOSFET, thyristor or IGBT) a safe operating area (SOA) is defined as the voltage and current conditions over which the device can be expected to operate without self-damage. and lower power loss. Decreased base spread resistance in these transistors also allows a wide driving range for simplified design of the horizontal deflection circuit. In addition, lifetime control through electron-irradiation provides uniform switching speed, typically 0.1 (mu)s, and stable parameter distribution. The HDTRs are available in the fully isolated TO-3PF and TO-264 packages. Products have Collector-Base Breakdown Voltage Breakdown Voltage (Insulator) = The minimum voltage that causes a portion of an insulator to become electrically conductive. Breakdown Voltage (diode) = The minimum reverse voltage to make the diode conduct in reverse. ratings of 1500 volts in a range of currents from 10A to 25A, and 1700 volts at 20A to support various size TVs, including HDTVs, large screen and projection TVs and monitors.
