Faculty string quartet to play Prokofiev, Brahms, Schubert.

Concerts by the Oregon String Quartet The Oregon String Quartet is a resident ensemble of the University of Oregon School of Music. It is made up of:
  • Kathryn Lucktenberg, violin
  • Fritz Gearhart, violin
  • Leslie Straka, viola
  • Steven Pologe, cello
 and visiting harpists are set for this week at the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. Thursday, Beall Hall

Works by Franz Schubert, Sergey Prokofiev and Johannes Brahms will occupy the Oregon String Quartet at a Faculty Artist Series recital at 8 p.m. Thursday in Beall Concert Hall.

Members of the quartet, all on the UO music faculty, are violinists Fritz Gearhart and Kathryn Lucktenberg; violist Leslie Straka; and cellist Steven Pologe Steven Pologe is an American cellist. He is the associate professor of cello at the University of Oregon School of Music and cellist with both the Oregon String Quartet and Trio Pacifica. .

The program consists of Schubert's `Unfinished Quartet'' in C Minor, Prokofiev's Quartet No. 1 and Brahms' Quintet in F Minor for Piano and Strings.

Joining the ensemble for the Brahms quintet is pianist Alexander Tutunov, who is director of keyboard studies at Southern Oregon University Bachelors and master's programs are offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, and School of Education. History

Tickets, available at the door, are $9 general admission, $5 for students and seniors.

Harp concert

Saturday, Beall Hall

Six UO alumni harpists will be featured in a free reunion concert titled "Of Dreams and Dances' at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Beall Concert Hall.

The concert will feature a recently donated Lyon & Healy gold concert model harp, from the estate of the late UO alumna Silver Sparks.

Performing will be Jeff Parsons Parsons, city (1990 pop. 11,924), Labette co., SE Kans.; inc. 1871. It is a shipping point for dairy products, grain, and livestock. The program features UO professor emeritus Hal Owen's new set of variations on the Welsh air `The Maid From Penderyn,' performed by Zaerr.

Also scheduled are a variety of dances and contemplative music, including Jacques Ibert's `Scherzetto,' a duo arrangement of Ottorino Respighi's `Ancient Airs and Dances,' Henriette Renie's `Contemplations,' selections from Bernard Andres Damase's `Epice" and works by J.S. Bach, Hector Berlioz and others.
