DIC abbr. disseminated intravascular coagulation Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) ) programme, a developmental project funded by the Foreign Ministry of Finland to facilitate caring communities that participate in their future development. The ELCIN and DIC have come together to work not for the community, but rather with the community. Through this method, DIC plans to identify the major factors hindering hin·der 1 v. hin·dered, hin·der·ing, hin·ders v.tr. 1. To be or get in the way of. 2. To obstruct or delay the progress of. v.intr. community development such as HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States. and Aids, unemployment, and the rights of vulnerable children and orphans. The DIC relies on members of the community to serve as volunteers in their projects. The group has been training volunteers in dealing with issues they might face while attending to other members of the community. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] On Sunday, 1 October 2006, Selma Shejavali, one of the programme's main coordinators, spoke about the goals of her organisation at an event which saw the newly trained volunteers receiving their certificates. The audience was also presented with a short drama, 'My Friend, Don't Forget me in my Sickness', which told the story of a man who, while pretending to be faithful to his wife, actually keeps a girlfriend in Swakopmund. When the man finds out that he is HIV positive, his whole life is turned upside Upside The potential dollar amount by which the market or a stock could rise. The play was performed by the group of recent graduates of the DIC training programme, who thoroughly entertained the audience through a mix of humour humour (Latin; “fluid”) In early Western physiological theory, one of the four body fluids thought to determine a person's temperament and features. , drama and an important message for all to hear. After the play, Shejavali remarked, "This project is something coming from the community, from here. It's not a foreign interpretation ... this type of interaction is what we need so we can learn what is happening in our own society to people just like us." The event marked an important milestone in carrying out the mission of ELCIN's Diakonia in the City programme, and empowering these communities in tackling the issues of HIV/Aids, orphaned or·phan n. 1. a. A child whose parents are dead. b. A child who has been deprived of parental care and has not been adopted. 2. A young animal without a mother. 3. and vulnerable children and unemployment. Through the inspiring programme by the DIC group and Shejavali, the audience was able to learn more about living with HIV/Aids, how to prevent it, and how members of the community can be supportive of those who need assistance most.
