The ELCIN and DIC have come together to work not for the community, but rather with the community. Through this method, DIC plans to identify the major factors hindering hin·der 1

There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States.  and Aids, unemployment, and the rights of vulnerable children and orphans.

The DIC relies on members of the community to serve as volunteers in their projects. The group has been training volunteers in dealing with issues they might face while attending to other members of the community.

On Sunday, 1 October 2006, Selma Shejavali, one of the programme's main coordinators, spoke about the goals of her organisation at an event which saw the newly trained volunteers receiving their certificates. The audience was also presented with a short drama, 'My Friend, Don't Forget me in my Sickness', which told the story of a man who, while pretending to be faithful to his wife, actually keeps a girlfriend in Swakopmund. When the man finds out that he is HIV positive, his whole life is turned upside Upside

After the play, Shejavali remarked, "This project is something coming from the community, from here. It's not a foreign interpretation ... this type of interaction is what we need so we can learn what is happening in our own society to people just like us."

The event marked an important milestone in carrying out the mission of ELCIN's Diakonia in the City programme, and empowering these communities in tackling the issues of HIV/Aids, orphaned or·phan

Through the inspiring programme by the DIC group and Shejavali, the audience was able to learn more about living with HIV/Aids, how to prevent it, and how members of the community can be supportive of those who need assistance most.
