Fabrene modernizes

Fabrene Inc. of North Bay is launching a $7-million plant modernization in order to increase the company's competitiveness and maintain 250 full-time jobs.

The company is receiving a $1.18-million contribution from FedNor's core industrial program for the project.

Fabrene manufactures polyethylene fabric used for protection against adverse weather conditions.

While most of the company's sales are to the lumber industry, other applications for the product include the protection of swimming pools and golf greens.

Last year the company had a major contract to supply sandbags to the United States for the Persian Gulf war.
