FURR'S/BISHOP'S NAMES PRATHER CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND PRESIDENT
LUBBOCK, Texas, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- William E. Prather, former president and chief executive officer of Hardee's Food Systems, Inc., has been elected as chief executive officer and president of Furr's/Bishop's, Inc. (NYSE: CHI) by the board of directors of the restaurant and cafeteria firm.
Michael J. Levenson, who beneficially owns approximately 71 percent of the outstanding shares of Furr's/Bishop's, Inc. (FBI), will continue as chairman of the board and the executive committee.
"Bill Prather's innovative leadership and successful track record in our industry enables him to immediately assume management of day-to-day operations while directing the company toward healthy, long-term growth," said Levenson.
Prather said, "I look forward to working closely with Michael Levenson to manage and grow Furr's/Bishop's fine operations through this difficult economic environment."
When Prather joined Hardee's in 1986, the company's annual revenues were $2.2 billion. Following Prather's blueprint for steady, controlled growth and management development, the company achieved $4.2 billion in annual revenues by July 1991. In 1990, Prather was a recipient of Nation's Restaurant News "Golden Chain" award.
Under his leadership, Hardee's -- with more than 4,000 restaurants -- climbed to the No. 3 position among fast-food hamburger chains, surpassing Wendy's. Prior to his position at Hardee's, Prather was executive vice president of worldwide operations for Burger King Corporation.
FBI also announced that Prather had signed a five-year employment agreement and has the option to purchase an aggregate of 500,000 shares of FBI common stock.
