The light of one of New Mexico's gems has extinguished. Rose Marie Alderete ("Rosie") passed away peacefully and gently on October 18, 2009, at home holding hands with her two sons.

She was born to Rose Marie Tuffly in Lockhart, Texas Lockhart is a city in Caldwell County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Caldwell CountyGR6. The city of Lockhart, Texas, is named after Bryd Lockhart, an assistant surveyor and reportedly the first Anglo to set foot in Caldwell County.  in 1923.

She married and had two sons, Frank T. Bass, Jr. and Stephen D. Bass. She moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico Santa Fe, more properly Santa Fé, (pronounced [ˈsænə feɪ] by natives, [ˌsænə ˈfeɪ]  in 1958 to start a new life with her two sons.

Rose Marie worked for the City of Santa Fe Attorney's Office and the law offices of Howard F. Houk. She then began work for the Clerk's Office of the Supreme Court of New Mexico New Mexico, state in the SW United States. At its northwestern corner are the so-called Four Corners, where Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah meet at right angles; New Mexico is also bordered by Oklahoma (NE), Texas (E, S), and Mexico (S).  and shortly thereafter became the first female clerk of the Supreme Court. She held that position for 25 years, longer than any other clerk in the history of the court. She served on the Board of Bar Examiners for many years and was a cherished friend of most of New Mexico's lawyers.

She married John C. A. Alderete in 1963 and they lived the remainder of their lives in Santa Fe.

She served as President of the St. Vincent's Auxiliary and on the Fiesta Council for many years. Rose Marie was always driven to accomplish more.

She finally completed the college education she had begun at the University of Houston by receiving her degree in Public Administration from the College of Santa Fe History
The oldest chartered college in the State of New Mexico, the College of Santa Fe was founded in the Lasallian tradition of education, a Roman Catholic teaching order in which the schools are run by laymen. The institution's first incarnation opened in 1859, as St.
 - at the age of sixty.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John C. A. Alderete; and is survived by her two sons, Frank T. Bass, Jr. (Julia) and Stephen D. Bass (Laura); and her step daughter, Roberta Espinosa; her grandchildren: David Bass, Brian Bass and Justine Bass Hines; and three great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice, the St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary, The Santa Fe Fiesta Council or the University of New Mexico The University of New Mexico (UNM) is a public university in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was founded in 1889. It also offers multiple bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degree programs in all areas of the arts, sciences, and engineering.  School of Law.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009, 2 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Faith in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Bernie Valdez.

He is survived by his parents, Anthony and Jeanette Castor; his brother, Michael and wife Lyssa; his niece, Serenity; his nephew, Landin; his brother, David; his grandmother, Dorothy Valdez; and his grandmother, Helen Martinez; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Anthony was a graduate of Capital High School where he played varsity sports.

He had recently retired from the State of New Mexico.

He was an avid Cowboy and Red Socks fan.

Kate Abbott, 86, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, writer, sailor, master-knitter, thespian, musician, and volunteer passed away peacefully on October 15, 2009.

Kate leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Scott Abbott; four daughters: Jane Abbott, Rebecca Abbott, Deborah Abbott, Sue Schneider and husband Rick Schneider; one foster son, Joe Robbins; seven grandchildren: Phoebe, Maya, and Gabriel Daurio, Katy (Tim) Downie and Toby Ramey, Abby and Cara Schneider; and two great-grandchildren: Madeline Dean and Nola Downie.

Kate was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to William and Alice Winkler. She spent her childhood in Milwaukee and summers sailing and swimming at the Winkler family cottage on Pine Lake with her three brothers: Wighty, Bob, and Hib.

Kate lost her mother at the age of eight, but she always praised her father for his wise approach to child-rearing. Kate attended elementary school in Milwaukee, high school at Kemper Hall, and college at Mt. Holyoke, the University of Wisconsin and later the University of Denver Background and rankings

They were married in Oconomowoc in 1943 and lived throughout the United States during their 66 years together, including Laramie, WY, Carbondale, Denver, Ft. Collins and Steamboat Springs, CO, Tuba City, AZ and Sitka, AK, finally retiring to Santa Fe.

Kate went back to work as a teacher when her youngest started school, and taught math at Kent School in Denver, elementary school in Steamboat Springs, CO and middle school in Sitka, AK. Kate and Scott traveled extensively and enjoyed visiting numerous friends around the world. Kate wrote a juvenile novel, Mystery at Echo Cliffs, when they lived on the Navajo Reservation and continued to write until recently.

Kate was an active volunteer in numerous organizations. She enjoyed watching tennis, football, birds, and never missed Charlie Rose.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joshua Brown for his compassion and caring attitude toward Kate and all the caregivers who have helped Kate over the last year, including: Richard, Heather, Angela, Stephanie, Lane, Theresa and Francisco. We couldn't have cared for Kate without you.

A Memorial Service and mass celebrating Kate's life will be held Saturday, October 24th, 2 p.m. at St. Bede's Episcopal Church, followed by a reception in the community room.

Contributions in Kate's name may be made to Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity, nonprofit ecumenical Christian organization that enables low-income people to own affordable, livable housing. Headquartered in Americus, Ga., it was founded in 1976 by businessman Millard Fuller and his wife. , Free Tibet or the Episcopal Women's Caucus.
