FUNERAL SATURDAY FOR MAEL MOORE.Byline: Daily News CANYON COUNTRY - Mael Moore, still driving after her 100th birthday and continuing to bake and sew, died Monday in Santa Clarita at 103. Born May 6, 1902, in Parkerville, Kan., Moore had lived in Canyon Country for more than 30 years and was an avid gardener and seamstress who lived on her own until recently. ``She was a very determined person,'' daughter-in-law Fern Moore said Thursday. ``We were lucky to have her for as long as we did.'' Moore had a tough life, working family farms in Kansas and Iowa, her daughter-in-law said. Both parents died when she was young and it was left to her to help raise her five siblings. One sister lived to 102. Married 62 years to Clarence Moore, she was widowed in 1987. The couple had two children - James Moore of Toluca Lake and Lorene Heggy, who died in 1998. Along with son James and his wife, Fern, Moore is survived by three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Moore's funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Santa Clarita United Methodist Church, 26640 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus. Interment will follow at Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church's memorial fund. CAPTION(S): photo Photo: MOORE |
