Highway 138 now follows Palmdale Boulevard from the freeway to 47th Street East and then veers south. The new alignment, adopted by the commission in July, follows Avenue P-8 from the freeway to 120th Street East and then goes south to connect with the existing alignment. Palmdale officials want Highway 138 improved for reasons of safety - 63 deaths and more than 1,400 injures since 1990 - and commerce.
