FUNDRAISING NUMBERS ARE IN PADILLA LEADS MONTANEZ IN VALLEY CONTEST.

SACRAMENTO - City Councilman Alex Padilla Alex Padilla is a politician in California. He was elected as the State Senator for the 20th District of California in November 2006 and was inaugurated in early December. In order to enter the Senate he had to resign as Councilman for the 7th District on the Los Angeles City  has taken a fundraising lead in his battle with Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez for the state Senate seat representing the northeast San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Padilla raised $550,000 last year and had $478,000 cash on hand as of Dec. 31, reports show. Montanez, D-San Fernando, raised $438,000 last year and had $320,000 cash on hand.

The Montanez-Padilla race is expected to be one of the most expensive and competitive in the San Fernando Valley as two elected officials with their own established bases of power and experience face off.

Political analysts say in most races in the Valley, voter registration Voter registration is the requirement in some democracies for citizens to check in with some central registry before being allowed to vote in elections. An effort to get people to register is known as a voter registration drive. Centralized/compulsory vs.  figures and voting history make it likely the contests will be decided in June.

``All the action is in the primary,'' said Allan Hoffenblum, a Republican political consultant who analyzes legislative races. ``We don't see any of the Valley seats as being competitive for November.''

Other competitive primary races include the Democratic primary for the liberal 42nd Assembly District, where former Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  City Councilman Michael Feuer Michael Feuer (1958-)[1] is a Californian politician and lawyer.  Mayor Abbe Land had raised $197,000 as of the report, with $329,000 cash on hand.

In the Democratic primary for the 43rd Assembly District in the Glendale area, Burbank school board member Paul Krekorian Paul Krekorian was elected in 2006 to serve California's 43rd Assembly District, which includes the cities of Glendale and Burbank and the Los Feliz, Silver Lake, North Hollywood, Valley Glen, Toluca Lake, Atwater Village and Valley Village communities of Los Angeles.  had raised $269,000, with $249,000 cash on hand.

Glendale City Councilman Frank Quintero had raised $212,000, with $206,000 cash on hand. Former Assemblyman Scott Wildman Scott Wildman was a California State Assemblyman from 1996 until 2000. That year, he lost a State Senate primary to Dr. Jack Scott, an Assemblyman from a neighboring district. Wildman received 46.7% of the vote.  raised $38,000, with $35,000 cash on hand.

The race for Assembly District 41, where incumbent Assemblywoman Fran Pavley, D-Agoura Hills, is termed out, features five Democratic candidates.

In that race, several of the Dec. 31 reports had not been filed electronically as of Tuesday afternoon, but Jonathan Levey, a Santa Monica attorney and professor, and Calabasas Mayor Barry Groveman were leading the pack in fundraising as of the previous reports.

Levey had raised $230,000 and had $215,000 on hand as of June 30. Groveman had raised $168,000 and had $265,000 on hand as of June 30.

In the governor's race, Democratic state Treasurer Phil Angelides reported raising $9 million last year, with about $18 million cash on hand. State Controller Steve Westly reported raising $26 million, with $24 million cash on hand.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is not yet facing a serious challenge in the GOP primary, though some conservatives have talked of backing a conservative candidate, raised $2 million in his gubernatorial campaign as of the report.

Schwarzenegger spent most of his fundraising effort last year on his special election, mostly by raising funds for his political committee, the California Recovery Team. The CRT (1) (C RunTime) See runtime library.
