LANCASTER -- A charity poker run A Poker run (also known as a Poker Derby) is an organized event using a motorcycle, boat, car or other form of transportation where participants travel over a predesignated route and, at designated stops on the route, draw playing card(s).  Oct. 8 will honor law enforcement officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty In the Line of Duty may refer to:

 and raise money to help their families.

A July ride attended by hundreds of motorcyclists raised $25,000 for the family of motorcycle Deputy Pierre Bain, killed in a crash in March.

The Oct. 8 ride will conclude at the Antelope Valley Harley-Davidson dealership with a lunch and memorial service remembering Bain as well as Los Angeles County Fire Department Not to be confused with Los Angeles Fire Department.

Registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Harley-Davidson dealership, 1759 W. Ave. J-12, Lancaster.

The ride will start at 11 a.m. and will tour Antelope Valley before returning to the dealership.

The fee is $35 a rider, or $45 with a passenger, which includes the after-ride lunch at the dealership. Cars and trucks are welcome on the ride, organizers said. Nonriders can buy lunch for $10.

``It's important to remember those who sacrificed their lives protecting the community and support, and assist their families,'' Lancaster sheriff's station commander Capt. Carl Deeley said.

The ride is called a poker run because participants draw a playing card at start and finish, and at three stops along the way. The riders with the best poker hands win prizes. Ride applications are available at the Antelope Valley Harley-Davidson dealership or by calling Linda Collis at (661) 948-8466, Ext. 4001, or e-mailing ljcollis(at)lasd.org. People can also register the morning of the event.
