FUND DRIVE TOPS HOSPITAL'S GOAL NEWHALL MEMORIAL REAPS $14.5 MILLION.

Byline: Daily News

VALENCIA - Topped by a $3 million donation from a local businesswoman, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital surpassed fundraising goals for a new emergency room and heart diagnostic center.

At a gala reception Thursday night for its supporters, the hospital fundraising Health Foundation announced the completion of its 3-year-old capital campaign, boasting it had raised $12 million - plus $2.5 million over its goal.

The $14.5 million in cash and pledges is earmarked for an expanded new emergency department and cardiac catheterization Cardiac Catheterization Definition

Special credit, Amsler said, should go to campaign chairman Gary Cusumano, chief executive officer of The Newhall Land and Farming Company The Newhall Land and Farming Company is a land management company based in Valencia, California, United States. ``It became very clear to us that Gary was the primary force for leading the effort and encouraging significant support,'' Amsler said. ``We are extremely grateful.''

Cusumano said corporate gifts, particularly from Tom Veloz and Roberta Veloz, helped the foundation beat its goal.

Tom Veloz donated $1 million to start the campaign, and former wife Roberta Veloz recently presented $3 million to complete the campaign and provide funding for the Cardiac Cath Lab A catheterization laboratory or cath lab is an examination room in a hospital or clinic with diagnostic imaging equipment to support the catheterization procedure. The goal for employee contributions was $175,000, and $350,000 was pledged. Physicians at the hospital pledged $700,000, surpassing their goal of $500,000. And the foundation and hospital board members raised $4 million, four times their goal. Hospital philanthropic support groups also pledged $225,000.
