Participants said it was the most controversial and exciting contest in the nine years the games have been played at Jet Propulsion Laboratory “JPL” redirects here. For other uses, see JPL (disambiguation).

It looked like Arcadia would win until whiz kid and team captain Vincent Auyeung, 17, with only seconds left on the clock, incorrectly answered a question before it was fully asked.

His former coach, Wayne Lee, was among the 150 people groaning in the audience.

``How many years have I told him about clock management!'' lamented Lee, an engineer at JPL. ``It's the equivalent of taking a knee in football and letting the clock run out, rather than running a play that might give the other team a chance to score.''

Auyeung scowled as his team walked from the podium after scoring 2-1 in overtime.

``I feel very stupid at the moment,'' Auyeung said.

He shouldn't. Auyeung again proved he was a brilliant, albeit overanxious, player and the star of a team that's among the best in the Southland in a tournament of questions that would stump most adults.
