NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1998--In the quarterly meeting held on 8 October October: see month.  1998, the World Index Policy committee (WIPC) reviewed a number of Eurobloc countries, Australia Australia (ôstrāl`yə), smallest continent, between the Indian and Pacific oceans. With the island state of Tasmania to the south, the continent makes up the Commonwealth of Australia, a federal parliamentary state (2005 est. pop. , New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. , Japan, and the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. Following the quarterly meeting, the World Index Policy Committee announced the following changes which will become effective on Monday Monday: see week. , November November: see month.  2, 1998: -0-

Finland        one (1) stock will be added to the index.
               (This is an additional line of an existing constituent)

France         one (1) stock will be added to the index and three (3)
               deleted.

Greece         one (1) stock will be deleted.

Italy          one (1) stock will be added to the index and one (1)
               secondary line deleted.

Norway         three (3) stocks will be added to the index and two (2)
               stocks deleted.

Spain          one (1) stock will be deleted.

Sweden         three (3) stocks will be deleted.

Switzerland    two (2) stocks will be added to the index.

Japan          five (5) stocks will be added to the index and
               thirty-seven (37) deleted.

Australia      six (6) stocks will be added to the index and three (3)
               deleted.

New Zealand    five (5) stocks will be added to the index and one (1)
               deleted.

United States  nine (9) stocks will be added to the index and four (4)
               deleted.

TREATMENT OF NTT DATA IN THE FT/S&P ACTUARIES JAPAN INDEX

As detailed in press notice regarding the treatment of NTT DoCoMo (NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc., Japan) Founded in 1991, NTT DoCoMo is a spinoff of Japan's NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) which provides wireless services, including cellular, paging, satellite and maritime and in-flight telephone services.  (released on 2 October 1998), the WIPC has reviewed the current weighting of NTT Data in the Japan index.

The Committee announced that following consideration of the 20% foreign ownership restriction restriction - A bug or design error that limits a program's capabilities, and which is sufficiently egregious that nobody can quite work up enough nerve to describe it as a feature.  and the 60.08% stake held by NTT, the free float Free float

An exchange rate system characterized by the absence of government intervention. Also known as clean float.
 available in NTT Data is 51.94%. Under Rule 3.4.4 (ii) (Government holdings), a share fraction is applied only if the available float is less than 50%. The company will therefore continue to be weighted at 100% in the index.
