FSMLabs Ramps Up with New Embedded Enterprise RTLinux Release with Support for Linux 2.6.16, Improvements in Mobility, Telecom and HIL Simulation Platforms.

SOCORRO, N.M. -- FSMLabs (http://www.fsmlabs.com) continued its rapid pace of technology releases with the final technology release of the RTLinuxPro 2 Development Kit (2.2.3). The main application targets for this release include hardware-in-loop (HIL) simulation, telecom and network equipment, enterprise/factory real-time and mobile devices.

"We continue to deliver industry-leading hard real-time performance, and our customers get product to market, while our competitors continue to deliver roadmaps and promises, and their customers continue to wait," said FSMLabs CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Victor Yodaiken. FSMLabs' patented hard real-time technology provides spectacular real-time performance on a wide range of processors: 2 microsecond worst-case interrupt latency on an AMD (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, www.amd.com) A major manufacturer of semiconductor devices including x86-compatible CPUs, embedded processors, flash memories, programmable logic devices and networking chips.  Opteron running both RTLinux and MS Windows XP (under VMWare), and 20 microsecond latency on an ARM9 running a full GSM/GPRS/EDGE stack.

This RTLinux release includes updates or new technology in the following areas:

--LNet zero-copy hard real-time networking support on everything from gigabit Ethernet to Firewire 1394 and USB USB
 in full Universal Serial Bus

"The maturation of FSMLabs' technology and engineering infrastructure has allowed us to make several quantum leaps even in this incremental release," said FSMLabs Director of Engineering Cort Dougan. "We're building on 10 years of innovations, not just downloading open-source code, adding some drivers and putting it in a box. The new LNet component allows an engineer to build a hard real-time wire-speed router in just a few weeks. Direct support for A/D and digital I/O devices lets control engineers move directly to product development, instead of spending time on low-level software development." The set of development tools for the RTCore POSIX threads real-time environment has become richer, and the base of existing applications and drivers has become stronger. The synergy with Linux (or BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) The software distribution facility of the Computer Systems Research Group (CSRG) of the University of California at Berkeley. ) has become easier to exploit.

FSMLabs' Embedded Enterprise initiative aims at exploiting the productive synergy between state-of-the-art POSIX (Portable Operating System Interface for UNIX) An IEEE 1003.1 standard that defines the language interface between application programs and the Unix operating system.  real-time in FSMLabs' RTCore, and the sophisticated capabilities and rich base of drivers, middleware and applications available on the Linux and BSD clients. "One of the big differences between FSMLabs and the standard embedded Linux vendors," remarked Dougan, "is that they have to push non-standard Linux variations to differentiate, while we want to retain Linux's value as a standardized platform. When we add value to Linux in terms of smaller footprint, higher boot speeds, and greater reliability and performance, it just increases the value of our proprietary products."

"The first two quarters of 2006 have been remarkable for FSMLabs," said Yodaiken. "We've announced ground-breaking products based on our software, ranging from Samsung's spider robot to Infineon's single core cell phone. We've had major design wins at aerospace companies for hardware-in-loop simulation on multi-core processor technology, and at the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, where we are developing complete data acquisition solutions."
