FSCT issues call for papers for Midyear Symposium, seeking presentations on Crosslinking for Coatings. The FSCT FSCT Federation of Societies for Coating Technology FSCT Fire Support Control Terminal is seeking technical papers to be considered for presentation at its Midyear Symposium, "Crosslinking for Coatings: Meeting the Challenges," to be held at the Hilton Walt Disney World Noun 1. Walt Disney World - a large amusement park established in 1971 to the southwest of Orlando Orlando - a city in central Florida; site of Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL on May 12-14, 2004. The abstract submission deadline is January 16, 2004. Designed to provide the international coatings community with a forum for the exchange of in-depth technical information, this two-day symposium will be preceded by an optional one-day workshop that addresses advanced topics related to crosslinking. The Midyear Symposium Task Force, chaired by Dr. Jamil Baghdachi, Eastern Michigan University Eastern Michigan University, mainly at Ypsilanti, Mich.; coeducational; founded 1849 as a normal school, became Eastern Michigan College in 1956, gained university status in 1959. , is soliciting presentations on the following topics: Symposium (May 13-14) AMBIENT TEMPERATURE Outside temperature at any given altitude, preferably expressed in degrees centigrade. CROSSLINKING: * Self crosslinking waterborne systems * Nontraditional one-part ambient cure systems * Dual cure technologies * New crosslinking agents * Low temperature film formation (2K, and other chemistries) * Surfactant-free coalescence coalescence /co·a·les·cence/ (ko?ah-les´ens) the fusion or blending of parts. co·a·les·cence n. See concrescence. coalescence a fusion or blending of parts. * Catalysis catalysis Modification (usually acceleration) of a chemical reaction rate by addition of a catalyst, which combines with the reactants but is ultimately regenerated so that its amount remains unchanged and the chemical equilibrium of the conditions of the reaction is not CHARACTERIZATION METHODS: * Methods of monitoring film formation process * Morphologies in film formation * Novel methods of evaluating mechanical properties * Correlation of crosslink density to film properties * Methods for evaluating crosslink density Workshop (May 12) * Overview of film formation processes--thermoplastic and thermosetting thermosetting, adj having the property of becoming irreversibly rigid or hardened with the application of heat. In dentistry the term is used in connection with resins. polymers * Film formation from latexes * Crosslinking of various chemistries--epoxy, aminoplast, polyurethane, alkyd al·kyd n. A widely used durable synthetic resin derived from glycerol and phthalic anhydride. Also called alkyd resin. [alky(l) + (aci)d.] Noun 1. , etc. * Mechanical properties of crosslinked films * Methods of monitoring film formation processes * Coating film properties, durability and performance correlations * Principles of radiation cure chemistries * Catalysis Those interested should provide a 150-200 word abstract by January 16, 2004, and contact information, including author name(s), company name, address, telephone, fax and e-mail address. If submitting electronic files, send a hard copy, along with the file. After abstracts are reviewed and presentations are approved, authors will be requested to submit a copy of handouts for distribution to all registered attendees. No paper is required. To submit abstracts, or for more information, contact: Rod Moon, Director of Education, FSCT, 492 Norristown Rd., Blue Bell, PA 19422-2350; 610.940.0777; fax: 610.940.0292; or e-mail: rodm@coatingstech.org. |
