FRONTIER INSURANCE GROUP, INC. ANNOUNCES FAVORABLE NEW YORK STATE COURT OF CLAIMS DECISION

ROCK HILL, N.Y., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Frontier Insurance Group, Inc. (NYSE: FTR) announced that in an opinion filed on Sept. 3, 1993, the Court of Claims of the State of New York held, inter alia, that the July 1992 legislation by the State of New York eliminating medical school faculty members of the State University of New York (SUNY) engaged in the clinical practice of medicine, as part of their employment by SUNY, from indemnification by the state with respect to malpractice claims arising out of such activity should not be applied retroactively. This decision, which Frontier anticipates will be appealed by the State of New York, may impact in excess of 400 claims. In the event Frontier ultimately prevails, it should benefit economically by not being responsible for certain of such claims for which it presently carries reserves and may also be entitled to reimbursement for certain of such claims previously paid.
Frontier is an underwriter and creator of specialty insurance products which serve the needs of insureds in niche markets.
