FROM THE FRINGE : HOLE OF THE WEEK.

SIMI HILLS The Simi Hills are a low rocky mountain range in Southern California. Geography
Simi Hills is located on the western edge of the San Fernando Valley, United States. They run east-west and they extend 26 miles east-west, and 7 miles north-south.

Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.

Hole: 11

Yards: 391

Par: 4

Rated the second-hardest hole on the course, Simi Hills No. 11 has left countless golfers wondering what happened as they write down bogey or worse on their scorecards. ``It looks wide open but it's pretty tough,'' said Simi Valley High golf coach Ty McDermott, who likes the hole despite the frustration. The sneaky-long par-4 is flanked by a creek on the left, out-of-bounds hillside on the right, a stream crossing the fairway and wind that usually is in the golfer's face. ``You have to keep your tee shots low in the wind,'' McDermott said. ``Sometimes you have to hit a 1-iron. I think if you asked most people what hole gives them the hardest time on the back side, this would be the one.''

  • Robert Jones (American football), former football player for the Dallas Cowboys
  • Robert Jones (American politician) (b. 1944), Former Kalamazoo mayor and current member of the Michigan State House.
Sr.-designed Valencia Country Club, which also opened during the 1960s. UCLA's Ross Fulgentis calls Vista Valencia ``the toughest par-61 around,'' and head pro John Perkins

For other people named John Perkins, see John Perkins (disambiguation).

John Perkins (b. 28 January 1945 in Hanover, New Hampshire) is an activist and author.
has been known to tell those scoffing at its short length that if they can par it he'll pay for their round. ``I haven't bought many rounds,'' Perkins said. Golfers looking to test themselves with long shots will find all the challenge they want on the 222-yard, par-3 second hole, which plays 242 yards from the back of the teebox and into the wind in the afternoon. The 423-yard ninth, 452-yard 10th and 396-yard 16th - all par-4s - also need big tee shots, and a long, narrow green on the 194-yard, uphill, par-3 11th makes par a great score there. ``Get on the wrong level on some of these greens and you'll three-putt in a heartbeat immediately.
