This No. 5 handicap hole is difficult for its length, for the wind it sometimes can play into and for the left-side lake that flanks the second half of the right-to-left sloping fairway and fronts the green, which juts left at the end of a slight closing dogleg dog·leg

``Golf Digest's Places to Play''

The fifth edition of this guide, which made its debut in 1963 as a Golf Digest Golf Digest is a monthly golf magazine published by Advance Publications in the United States. It is a generalist golf publication covering recreational golf and men's and women's competitive golf.  insert, is a combined effort of the magazine (www.golfdigest.com) and Fodor's Travel Publications (www.fodors.com) and offers comments and ratings of more than 6,500 public-access courses by more than 20,000 avid golfers.

Contributing readers of Golf Digest, aided by a team of eight editors, rate overall experience, value, standard of service, overall condition and pace of play at the selected courses, which are in every state - 363 in California - as well as Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Included in the near-1,100-page paperback volume are Golf Digest's ranking of America's 100 greatest courses (14 of them are public-access, including top-ranked Pebble Beach Golf Links Pebble Beach Golf Links is one of several well known courses in Pebble Beach, California and probably the most famous golf course in the Western United States. Four of the courses in the coastal community of Pebble Beach, including Pebble Beach Golf Links,[1] ) and top-50 lists recognizing great and good service, great and good value and great and good condition.

Only five of the 6,500-plus rated courses received the maximum five-star ranking, with the list topped again by Pebble Beach Golf Links.
