FROM THE FIELD : UPGRADE ARENA OR MOVE.

Byline: Gary Washburn

Environment means everything.

The Anaheim Arena laid the groundwork for the biggest Clippers victory of the season. Their 108-86 win over the Lakers See Lake poets  on Tuesday might have gained some respect, but the real question is whether it will attract more fans to the desolate Sports Arena.

The Clippers turned down the opportunity to move to Anaheim for this season and then teased the Orange County fans by scheduling six games there.

better than the Sports Arena, but the problem is the proximity from Donald Sterling's Beverly Hills' office. Too far.

Sterling's rich, really rich, so the loss of revenue by staying at the Sports Arena doesn't really matter to him.

An improved Clippers team will attract some fans, but if they stay there for the next few years - waiting on a new L.A. stadium deal - then the Sports Arena must be improved.

Clippers players have complained about the arena's facilities, especially when they frequent lavish stadiums around the NBA NBA

One player even declared, ``We need a new locker room.''

Gutting it out would be the best idea, but not likely. So the Clippers could help contribute to the off-season renovation of the Sports Arena. Better lighting, new locker rooms, maybe a paint job.

There are subtleties, but a new environment will give the message to fans that the Clippers are no longer synonymous with synonymous with

Anaheim provides the Clippers with a state-of-the-art facility and an electric atmosphere. The only electric atmosphere seen at the Sports Arena was when the lights blew out two weeks ago because of a power surge An oversupply of voltage from the power company that can last up to 50 microseconds. Although surges are very short in duration, they often reach 6,000 volts and 3,000 amps when they arrive at the equipment. Power surges are a common cause of damage to computers and electronic equipment. .

The players like Anaheim better and coach Bill Fitch William Fitch (born May 19 1934 in Davenport, Iowa) is a former NBA coach who has been successful in making teams playoff contenders throughout his coaching career. Before entering the professional ranks he coached college ball at the University of Minnesota, Bowling Green State  wishes the organization would make a decision.

``I like playing here,'' Fitch said. ``It's really a nice place. The only drawback is that you have to travel out here like a road game.''

If the Clippers aren't going to move to Anaheim, at least they could attempt to bring that type of atmosphere to the Sports Arena.

We have learned from the Forum that a viable arena doesn't have to be located in Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities.  in order to prosper.

What matters is the product on the court and the environment it represents.

The Clippers should take advantage of their recent success and make the place they play the best it can be.

More wins may be at stake.
